Unspoken Sorrows
Unspoken Sorrows is a creative project that explores how grief and disability intersect. An exhibition inspired by interviews with participants will take place at Phoenix Art Space, Brighton.
This project is made possible by help from Arts Council England and the National Lottery Fund. It is led by disabled artist/facilitator, Nu McAdams and produced by Brass Bathtub with support from Brighton Death Collective.
Nu McAdam
Nu is a autistic trans masculine non-binary fairy-like artist. They are quadriplegic and have come from a background of medical trauma and parental bereavement.
Navigating life through multiple inaccessible homes when they were 11 from the rolling hills of the West country – Nu discovered who they were because of the eccentric openness of Brighton. They discovered the subcultures of the early 2000s and used artistic practices to convey their depression.
Now an independent artist and an accessibility advisor/auditor, Nu runs 2 small independent businesses in a fast-moving horribly capitalistic world. Using colour and exploring difficult subjects of grief and disability, they have found a way to communicate their upbringing as well as how they explore themselves through the narrow mindset of the public on how it sees difference. Nu is a lover of all things bright, weird and nostalgic. They will continue to shout out their perspectives of how intersectional individuals are treated through their gallery coming up this winter at the phoenix gallery 2025.
